SPRING AT WINDMILL LODGES
We always get excited when Spring arrives here at Windmill Lodges. It is an ideal time for a break, with the daffodils and spring colours in bloom together with the promise of warmer weather, our log cabin short breaks are a perfect way to relax and enjoy the surrounding countryside as it comes to life. If you are looking to escape for some peace and quiet, our holiday lodges in Suffolk are a great place to retreat to for some quality time with family & friends. If you want to explore the local area there is always so much to see and do in the Spring that you will be spoilt for choice.
Here are some of our favourite places to go that are well worth a visit if you are staying with us in spring.
Easton Farm Park is only 15 minutes drive from Windmill Lodges and there is plenty to do for all ages. You can meet and feed lots of animals including springtime lambs, or take part in pony rides, train rides and beautiful walks down to the river Deben. With a large indoor cafe and soft ball pit, if the weather turns you can still enjoy a day out at the the farm park.
Nowton Park in Bury St Edmunds is 200 acres of landscaped countryside, and renowned for its 100,000 daffodil bulbs that come into bloom creating a magical display. Nowton Park is 45 minutes drive from Windmill Lodges and for a really great day out you can combine your trip with exploring the market town of Bury St Edmunds with Suffolk’s only Cathedral and the beautiful Abbey Gardens.
If you are looking to explore nature then Captain’s Wood is a wonderful place for a walk, particularly in spring. If you time it right you can see thousands of wonderful bluebells scattered amongst the trees and if you walk quietly, there is a good chance you will come across small herds of deer. The wood is looked after by Suffolk Wildlife Trust who have other places to visit across Suffolk and many different events throughout the year.
If you haven’t visited RPSB Minsmere before, then Spring is a great time to go. RSPB Minsmere hosted BBC Springwatch from 2013 – 2016 and there is so much to see and do on the site you can easily spend a whole day there. They have numerous events throughout the year and lots of different areas to explore from circular walks to wild wood adventure areas. There is also a shop and cafe on site with the most delicious cakes and scones! RSPB Minsmere is on the coast just south of Dunwich and only 30 minutes drive from our Suffolk lodges.
If you would like to visit somewhere really remote then Havergate Island is a must on your Spring itinerary. A small island on the River Ore near Orford, Havergate is a nature reserve looked after by the RSPB. Springtime is a popular time for a visit as the famous brown hares are at their most active and can be spotted around the island. You will also find lots of different species of birds and the flowers on the saltmarshes turn a lovely pink colour in Spring. Access to the island is by boat (pre-booking essential) and its best to plan ahead as places available are limited.
After you’ve been out and about exploring our local area you can relax and unwind in your private hot tub.
These are just a few ideas of what you can do out and about if you are looking to book a holiday with us in the Spring. However you don’t need to leave the site at all to have a relaxing break away. All you have to decide is how long to stay – perhaps book one of our popular log cabin weekend breaks or maybe choose to stay for longer just to make sure you can fit in all the places you want to visit!
We are a small family owned and run site with just seven log cabins. To check availability you can click here and if you are unsure which log cabin will best suit your requirements please call us on 01728 685338 where Angela and Lisa will be happy to help.
