Windmill Lodges – Ideal for a Romantic Getaway

It isn’t just Valentine’s Day when you can show your other half how much you love them. There are plenty of other love-themed days throughout the year and opportunities to whisk your loved one away somewhere special. In 2020, Leap Year’s Day, or Leap Day, on February 29, could just be the ideal opportunity for women to pop the question!
Some less traditional days like National Cuddle Up Day and National Hugging Day would also be an ideal time to book a romantic break. Windmill Lodges have a choice of romantic log cabins in Suffolk, making your romantic getaway one to remember.
A weekend away from it all with the person you love and a cosy cabin or luxury lodge to nestle into, can make all the difference in the world. Here are some key dates in the Romantic diary for the new year.
National Cuddle Up Day – January 6
One of the many unofficial holidays of the year, originally introduced by Kevin Zaborney in Michigan, USA, 1986. This is the ideal time to cuddle up with the one you love on some of the coldest days of the year. Physical communication with our partner can help communicate trust, safety and reassurance and is a great excuse to cuddle up in the winter.
National Hugging Day – January 21
Kevin Zaborney also introduced National Hugging Day because he felt it was a time of year when people are at their lowest due to it falling between Christmas and Valentine’s Day. This is a chance to spend some time hugging your romantic partner, which has been proven to increase relaxation levels and boost our self-esteem.
Spouse’s Day – January 26
This unofficial holiday is another American invention, which gained popularity during the 2000s and is dedicated to recognising spouses everywhere, whether you are in a common-law marriage, domestic partnership or civil union. Take some time out of your busy schedule and use Spouse’s day as an excuse to show your partner how much you love, value and respect them.
St Valentine’s Day – February 14
The most famous romantic day of them all and a chance to shower your better half with gifts and tokens of appreciation. The exact origins of the traditions surrounding Valentine’s Day remain unclear.
It is said there were at least two different Saint Valentines around in 3rd century Rome. History suggests that both were sentenced to death by the Roman Emperor Claudius on February 14. The first Valentine conducted marriage services in secret and was thrown in jail. He fell in love with the jailer’s daughter and was taken to be killed on February 14, leaving her a card signed ‘from your Valentine’.
Some however, argue that Geoffrey Chaucer was the first person to link Valentine’s Day to romance in his poem The Parlement of Foules. Keep with the tradition this Valentine’s Day and organise a romantic break away with your partner.
Leap Day – February 29
The next Leap Day will be on February 29, 2020. In scientific terms, it’s a day that’s needed to keep our calendar in alignment with the Earth’s revolutions around the sun. Without this day every four years, we would lose at lease six hours every year.
According to an old Irish legend, St Brigid struck a deal with St Patrick to allow women to propose to men on this day. In some places, it is also referred to as Bachelor’s Day, where the man is expected to pay a penalty such as a gown or money, if he refused a marriage proposal from a woman on leap day.
If you are thinking of proposing to your significant other, then Leap Day is a date to jot down in your diary!
