The Benefits of Taking a Holiday in Suffolk This Year

With all the uncertainty surrounding foreign holidays, there has never been a better time to book a holiday in the UK this year – and particularly at Windmill Lodges, where you can book your own log cabin and hot tub in the beautiful Suffolk countryside.
There’s No Worries About International Travel
There are lots of advantages to taking a holiday in Suffolk this year, particularly if you don’t live too far away and are not currently subject to any travel restrictions. You can avoid the hassle of the airport or ferry terminal, your journey time will be a lot shorter, and there’s no need to worry about the Government changing its advice on which foreign countries are safe during the course of your break. Although Windmill Lodges’ site in Saxtead is in the heart of rural Suffolk, we are easily accessible via the A12 or the A140.
The Food and Drink Scene
Now that the pubs and restaurants are reopening, there’s plenty of opportunity to enjoy some of the local fare Suffolk is renowned for. The east of the county is well known for its plentiful supplies of fresh fish, which are sold direct from the fisherman to the customer on Aldeburgh beach.
For those who prefer meat, traditionally smoked ham and bacon are available at Peasenhall, less than eight miles from Windmill Lodges, while the free-range pork at nearby Blythburgh also enjoys a fine reputation. If you want something to drink there is no need to look any further than the Adnams beer which is brewed by the coast in Southwold. The brewery has several shop in Suffolk stocked with a selection of fine wines as well as their award-winning beers.
By way of an introduction, at Windmill Lodges we supply reasonably priced hampers for our guests, which includes Adnams beer and champagne.
The Local Resorts and Countryside
One of the great advantages of our location is that some of the UK’s most unspoiled coastline lies within easy reach. Southwold and Aldeburgh are the most picturesque resorts, and both are within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This stretches as far south as Felixstowe Ferry and Bawdsey and has a varied mix of heathland, salt marshes, reed beds and shingle and sandy beaches.
There’s plenty of opportunity to enjoy a brisk walk along the coast, as there are three officially designated footpaths – the Suffolk Coast Path, the Sandlings Walk and the Stour and Orwell Walk. If you want to see some rare forms of flora and fauna, and particularly birdlife, the RSPB reserve at Minsmere is now open, although there are some restrictions currently in place.
