Six Things to Do on an Easter Break at Windmill Lodges

Although Easter is quite late this year – the holiday weekend falls on April 17-20 – it’s always a good idea to plan ahead. Here are a few ideas of what you can do during your stay at Windmill Lodges, if you are interested in spring breaks in Suffolk.
- Go for a Walk
There are plenty of great walks close to our site, including trails at the Framlingham Mere Nature Reserve. Both Rendlesham and Tunstall Forests have walking trails as well, along with a variety of other activities. And, if you want to take a stroll along the coast, Suffolk Coast and Heaths have produced some excellent walking guides. For more information on these, follow this link.
- Go For a Ride
Cycling is another great option if you want to have an active (and sustainable) holiday. Suffolk Coast and Heaths have also produced cycle guides which include routes that pass quite close to us. For more information on these, check out our previous blog post here. If you don’t have your own bike, don’t worry because you can get one delivered to our site by Suffolk Cycle Hire.
- Attend a Local (Easter-themed) Event
There’s plenty being planned in and around Suffolk over Easter. Framlingham Castle has an adventure quest for children running throughout the holiday period; if they solve the clues hidden around the grounds, they win a chocolate reward. The price is £2 on top of the usual admission price.
Sutton Hoo, near Woodbridge, also has a similar event running. The historic site near Woodbridge has an Easter Egg trail until April 21, which costs £3.50. In both cases, you can make it educational – learning about local history – as well as fun.
And lastly, Baylham Rare Breeds Farm near Stowmarket – which normally offers supervised animal encounters – has some special lamb cuddling events over Easter.
- Go to Church
If you want to remember the roots of Easter, and why we celebrate it, then All Saints Church in Saxtead and St Michael’s Church in Framlingham both have regular Sunday services and welcome visitors as well as locals. The Framlingham services are usually at 8 am and 9.30 am, while Saxtead’s takes place at 11.15 am.
- Watch the Night Skies
Suffolk – and our Saxtead site in particular – is a great place for watching the night sky. Because we are in the heart of the countryside, and don’t suffer from light pollution, you get some great, uninterrupted views.
We won’t be able to promise you’ll see the aurora borealis, but you should be able to spot plenty of stars (and some planets) which might not be as easily visible at home. We also have a telescope for exclusive use by our guests – for more information check our astronomy page.
- Soak in Your Hot Tub
You can let the stresses and strains of everyday life melt away as you relax in your own private hot tub, available in every chalet at Windmill Lodges. Each lodge also features a fully equipped bathroom for your convenience. Plus, soaking in warm water offers numerous health benefits— check out our previous blog post here to learn more!
