There are also plenty of local historical sites and places of interest to visit. The 12th century castle at Framlingham is close by and far from being an old ruin; it is, thanks to English Heritage, a well maintained and informative tourist attraction, giving an insight into the life and times of the era.

Among them are Aldeburgh where you will find the Aldeburgh carnival in the summer, Southwold, the home of the Adnams Brewery Company and Thorpeness with its boating lake and famous house in the sky. Walberswick is also well worth a visit with small gift shops, excellent pubs and crab catching competitions for children.

Food and wine lovers will be at home in Suffolk, with the counties excellent local produce. Why not visit Shawsgate Vineyard, on the outskirts of Framlingham and sample some of the local wines. Other great days out for all the family include the farmer’s markets in the area.
