Key Reasons to Take a Local Short Break at Windmill Lodges

A holiday need not be somewhere hundreds of miles away – in fact, some of the most enjoyable holidays can be those which are virtually on your doorstep. Here, we look at some of the reasons to take log cabin short breaks in Suffolk at Windmill Lodges, even if you already live in the county.

The Convenience

A holiday in your home county is so simple to organise – you don’t have to pack much, particularly if you opt for one of our shorter weekend breaks. You can be here in a matter of minutes, rather than hours, as far as the actual journey is concerned; and there won’t be any long delays at airports (or worrying about whether your flight has been cancelled).

The Cost

One of our log cabin short breaks in Suffolk is also much cheaper than a holiday in another, more far-flung part of the country. You don’t have to factor in the cost of so much petrol, for one thing; and you don’t have to take just your immediate family with you, which may help split the cost up even more (we have seven lodges across the site, with the largest, Greenfinch, sleeping up to six people).  And you can also bring your pets – we have two dog-friendly lodges (Woodpecker and Wagtail), potentially saving on your East Anglia kennel fees.

Our prices start at £450 – the price of an off-peak four-night stay for two in our one-bedroomed Chaffinch Lodge in January. Some guests prefer a winter getaway as this is when the hot tub really comes into its own when its frosty outside! We sometimes offer late availability discounts – look out for any announcements elsewhere on the site’s news section, where it will be advertised.

The Sustainability

A local holiday is very good idea if you are worried about global warming. You are cutting back on your carbon footprint by reducing the distance you have to travel, whatever method you use to get here. And you are also providing a boost to the county’s economy, particularly if you get out and about once you arrive.

It’s Still a Holiday

You might think you aren’t on holiday if you are so close to home. Reality, however, is very different as there are many places to visit which are off the beaten track, or which you might never have heard of; or perhaps there are places which you promised yourself you would visit but have never got round to.

This could include some of the more unusual attractions, such as:

  • The Amber Museum in the nearby resort of Southwold
  • RSPB Minsmere (where no two visits will be the same, thanks to the varied birdlife)
  • The Radar Transmitter Block Museum at Bawdsey, near Felixstowe (although it’s on the other side of the River Deben. This is the birthplace of radar, which contributed so much to the country’s victory in the Battle of Britain
  • Or the unusually-shaped House in the Clouds at Thorpeness (pictured above).

And, even if you stay on site, you can genuinely forget where you are once you are relaxing in your own private hot tub, a key feature of all our lodges.
