Keeping Cool on a Summer Holiday at Windmill Lodges

Summer finally seems to be with us here in Suffolk – but what’s the best way of enjoying the sun without feeling too uncomfortable? If you opt for a Suffolk hot tub holiday at Windmill Lodges, then you will have plenty of options to help you keep cool and to enjoy the summer.
Go for a Swim Part 1: Our Own Swimming Pool
At Windmill Lodges, we have our own swimming pool on site, perfect for a cool dip with your lodge just around the corner. The pool is covered, so that should keep the sun out and you won’t have to worry about sunburn. It’s 5m x 10m in size, and there is a shallow end as well that gradually gets deeper, making the pool accessible for all ages and swimming abilities.
Our pool is open during the summer months, from May to September. There is also an informal booking system – for more details check out this page on our website.
Go for a Swim Part 2: Nearby Beaches
Being a coastal county, there are plenty of nearby sandy beaches to choose from within easy reach of Windmill Lodges.
Of these, a number have Blue Flag or Seaside Bathing Awards, (and in some cases both) if you are worried about the water quality. Specifically, the Southwold Pier beach, pictured above, and the two Felixstowe beaches (South and Pier) have received combined Seaside Awards and Blue Flags, while the beaches at Lowestoft South of Claremont Pier (bathing/resort) and Kessingland (non-bathing) have both received Seaside Awards.
There are plenty of shingle beaches too – for instance at both Aldeburgh and Dunwich. And, even if you don’t fancy a swim or a paddle, the temperature tends to be lower on the exposed east coast anyway thanks to the cool sea breezes.
Go for a Swim Part 3: Local Leisure Centres
There are a number of sports and leisure centres within easy reach where you can go for a swim and not have to worry about tides and high winds (or the sun!).
Framlingham College is the nearest – they open their facilities to the public on certain dates throughout the year – for more details click here.
Other local pools can be found at Deben Leisure Centre in Woodbridge, Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre in Stowmarket, and Crown Pools in Ipswich – check out their websites for opening times and facility availability.
Other Options
There’s also an open-air lido at Beccles if you are happy to make the 25-mile journey.
And Pleasurewood Hills in Lowestoft (around 30 miles away, a little further on from Beccles) has a log flume ride (The Water Fun Factory) which should be a splash hit if you have any children; there are a number of other rides which may not be for the faint-hearted but should keep you cool as you will be whirling around at height.

Or Stay in Your Log Cabin (and Have a Dip in Your Own Tub)
There’s plenty to do on site if you don’t fancy being too energetic or going far – sometimes the best way of keeping cool is to stay indoors out of the sun.
When you stay with us, you will have all the benefits of a luxury holiday cabin in the heart of Suffolk – all our lodges come fully equipped with home entertainment systems, on-site Wi-Fi and more. There’s also plenty of reading material and board games (which you can take back to your lodge) in The Hut, our communal building.
And, of course, all our lodges have their own private hot tub (pictured) off the veranda – this too should help you stay refreshed.
