Short Romantic Breaks
If you are planning a short romantic break with your loved one, then a stay in our award winning Chaffinch Lodge comes highly recommended. This spacious one bedroomed log cabin is beautifully appointed with a good sized open plan kitchen/diner and furnished living space. The large double bedroom with en suite and doors off to the veranda features a beautiful cast iron four poster bed with romantic voile drapery.
Through the doors and out onto the veranda, you are just a few short steps away from your very own, private outdoor hot tub. Screened off for privacy this allows you the ultimate in indulgent pleasures, a night time soak under the stars. Add a glass or two of chilled champagne for sheer, unabashed decadence and the experience is complete.
Your home entertainment needs are amply catered for with two flat screen TV’s, free view digital channels, DVD, stereo and free Wifi. If you require a little more space, you could opt for our Bullfinch, Goldfinch, Wagtail or Woodpecker Lodges. Similarly appointed these variations offer two or more bedrooms, all fitted out to a similarly high standard.
Weekend breaks at Windmill Lodges run from Friday to Monday morning and to make the best use of your time it is suggested that you arrive on the Friday no earlier than 4.00 pm. Having arrived, you’ll doubtless want to settle in and get unpacked before venturing out to view the wonderful Suffolk countryside. Assuming that is, that you venture out at all. Many of our guests prefer to remain on site at least for the first night as they settle in and get acclimatised to their new found, slower pace of life.
The following day you may wish to explore the local area. A good suggestion would be to visit one of the nearby market towns of Woodbridge or Framlingham. Both have a fine selection of local shops so you can stock up on provisions and there are some lovely restaurants that you could ear-mark for your evening meal.
On the Sunday, you might pay a visit to one of the delightful seaside towns nearby. Days out at Aldeburgh, Southwold or Thorpeness will provide photo opportunities aplenty and some quite lovely coastal and inland walks.
Southwold is famed for its Adnams brewery, an interesting guided tour of which will culminate in a well earned beer tasting. Aldeburgh is picture postcard pretty as is Thorpeness with its very interesting local history and its famous house in the sky. This is literally a house built on stilts; for no other reason than the architect wanted it that way. All these coastline treasures and many more besides are a joy to behold and offer great cafes, restaurants, pubs, galleries and gift shops to explore.
The evening could see you back at your lodge for a lovely home cooked meal or barbecue and a relaxing dip in your hot tub. What’s really nice on a romantic weekend break, is to slow down. Whether you snuggle up by the fire in winter, or sit outside on the veranda on a warm summer’s evening, the peace and tranquillity of the Suffolk countryside is soothing on the soul. Particularly those with hectic work lives or young families, a short break away at Windmill Lodges is just the tonic to recharge the batteries and spend some quality time together.
On your final morning, you may want to indulge yourself with a hearty cooked breakfast, before you depart your lodge by 10.00am. On your way home you could always take in another of Suffolk’s towns en route. You could take a trip to the gorgeous coastal town of Walberswick where you will find a beautiful sandy beach, kids catching crabs (in the summer) and two great pubs serving food. Slightly further inland is Lavenham – home to crooked medieval buildings, pubs, art galleries and shops. Both are chocolate box pretty and definitely worth a look, they will leave you with lasting memories of a truly romantic weekend.
We also offer monday-friday breaks, and full week breaks.
