Situated in the village of Saxtead, our Lodges are within walking distance of Saxtead Green where you can find the Saxtead Green post mill, a windmill from the late 13th Century, still in working order and welcoming visitors from April to September. There is also the Old Mill House, a local pub, offering warm hospitality and good food.

Framlingham which is 2 miles from Windmill Lodges is a historic market town definitely worth a visit. It has all the local amenities you would expect including a supermarket, chemist, newsagent, bakery, post office and petrol station. A small market can be found in the town square on Saturdays and Tuesdays, where you can also enjoy relaxing in one of the café’s, restaurants or pubs that serve good local produce.

Framlingham also boasts a stunning castle built in the late 12th century. Here you can step back in time and explore the grounds and castle complete with its wall-walk offering spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. If you would like to see more of Framlingham during your stay, there is also the town trail which includes areas of special interest that can be discovered on foot.

While staying at Windmill Lodges, a visit to the pretty town of Woodbridge for its interesting buildings, museums, history, riverside walks and shopping is a must. Approximately 13 miles from Windmill Lodges, Woodbridge lies on the banks of the river Deben, just across the river from Sutton Hoo, a historic Anglo-Saxon site.

Woodbridge offers much to do for all ages and tastes. As well as an interesting town to walk around, Woodbridge is home to the Riverside theatre which has a traditional one screen cinema. Shopping is a pleasure with its ‘high street’ – The Thoroughfare, containing a large array of independent shops together with the many places to eat ranging from café’s, pubs, and elegant restaurants serving everything from local seasonal produce to Indian, Thai and Italian. Woodbridge is just one of the wonderful places to visit during your stay in Suffolk.
